Well Dad and I are still flying….about half way there. Its a long flight from San Francisco to Beijing. We are somewhere between Alaska and Siberia right now. Since we are still flying I thought I would take a moment to share with you the significance of the “Flying Lion” that we sent in the mail to you. I wish we could have sent you and your foster home many presents, but they said only one small thing was allowed. I decided you might need a “Flying Lion” to keep you company until we could bring you home!
The Significance of the Flying Lion:
When I was just a little younger than you, I had my first operation. It was a surgery to fuse my cervical spine because it was too loose putting me at risk for paralysis. I pray that you don’t have to have many surgeries, ideally none, but know that is unlikely. Well, while I was recovering in a halo cast to keep my neck still, I cried so hard I pushed the metal pins from my forehead and skull holding my neck in place out! As my parents rushed me to the hospital in the ambulance my dad waved a small stuffed lion over my head. He called it my “Flying Lion”. He sang, “The flying lion stops the crying”. Ever since then my flying lion was my protector… Kept me from harm, kept me from crying.
In your short life thus far I know you have also dealt with many tough times. I wanted you to have your own flying lion to stop the crying until mom and dad could be there with you. That is why when we were told we could only send one small gift to you, i knew it should be a flying lion. I am sure there will be many tears and tough times ahead, but from now on we will be by your side singing “ the flying lion is gonna stop the crying”.
Love you and can’t believe how close we are to meeting you,
